Coney Island Concerned Writers Group'… Not a Bad Idea

A somewhat precious- but delightfully fact filled - article in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle on the subject of Brooklyn writers raises an interesting point:

Walt Whitman saved Fort Greene Park from developers.

Jonathan Lethem and others are trying to do the same for the neighborhoods surrounding Atlantic Yards. […]

But where's the Coney Island Concerned Writers Group or Keep Gowanus Canal Stinking Scribe Committee?

This is a great idea! Maybe some profile writers would be willing to lend their name to the cause. If not writers, maybe some other high profile cultural figures. How about hometown hero Neil Diamond? Or how about Woody Allen? Though he hails from Midwood, Woody will always be linked to Coney through his portrayal of Alvy Singer in Annie Hall (a character raised underneath the Cyclone, by a father who ran a bumper cars concession.)
