Kids Tour The Coney Island Lighthouse

The Coney Island Lighthouse is a local historical landmark, dating from 1890. The lighthouse is owned by the Coast Guard, and is largely inaccessible, due to its location within the gated community of Seagate

Frank Schubert was the last lighthouse's last keeper, serving from 1960 until the lighthouse became automated. His grandson, Scott Schubert, runs a Coney Island Lighthouse Website, and has been working to open up the lighthouse to the public. He had his first success last Thursday, when several fifth grade classes from PS 48 toured the lighthouse. "Hopefully," Schubert commented afterward on his website, "this will be just the first and we can organize some more tours and invite all the people that ask all the time!"
